Hi and welcome to our Zotfunder page! This campaign will aid the research efforts of a team of UCI medical student researchers led by Dr. Guiyun Yan, Professor of Public Health in the UCI Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology. As part of the Global Helath Research, Education, and Translation (GHREAT) program at the UCI School of Medicine, we are studying the incidence, prevention practices, and diagnosis of malaria in Western Kenya. We will be conducting fieldwork at our research site in Homa Bay, Kenya during the summer of 2019 and are seeking funds to help cover travel and living expenses. With your contribution, we will have the potential to help enhance the medical community's understanding of malaria prevention and improve health outcomes for malaria patients in an area where the disease is most burdensome.
Over 212 million new cases of malaria and 429,000 malaria deaths were recorded in 2015, with a majority of cases localized to Sub-Saharan Africa. Our project is part of a larger program under the International Center of Excellence for Malaria Research (ICEMR) in Sub-Saharan Africa, which strives to address the knowledge gaps and challenges in malaria control with the goal of reducing malaria burden in Ethiopia and Kenya. As a research team, we will be visiting homes in Homa Bay, Kenya to:
Our research will advance the accuracy of malaria diagnostics so as to reduce the frequency of misdiagnosis and allow for more efficient treatment. In the process, we will work with the community to identify potential misconceptions regarding malaria and help treat and educate the individuals affected. With your donations, we will be able to contribute to the fight against malaria and work together to significantly reduce the disease. Any donation, large or small, will greatly help in the effort to make this goal a reality.
Thank you for considering donating to our cause and aiding the fight against malaria. We appreciate all the love and support. Together, we can make a huge difference!
Thank you! Your donation shows your committment to fighting malaria in Kenya.
Your donation will fully support 3 days of clinical research by a medical student in Kenya. Your support is the reason why we are able to pursue this important research. Thank you so much for your contribution!
Your donation will fully support one week of clinical research by a medical student in Kenya. Supporters like you are the reason that this trip is able to happen. Thank you so much for supporting our cause and believing in our mission of contributing to the fight against malaria.
