Internships for English Majors

Welcome to the Internships for English Majors ZotFunder page!

Internships for English Majors was founded in 2021 to enhance the employability of UCI English majors. The program runs each fall and offers paid internships in marketing and communications in both campus and off-campus positions.

Internships connect our students’ academic experience to their career interests. Through these practical, hands-on experiences, our students learn how to apply what they’ve learned in their English classes in working environments. In addition to exploring career options, students’ employment experiences also help them stand out in a job market.

Our goal is to raise $5,000 to fund three students who will be interning at local corporations and non-profit organizations in fall 2023. Help unlock a generous $2,000 gift from Julia Reinhard Lupton ’89 & Kenneth Reinhard by being one of the first 20 gifts made!

With your help, we can offer internship opportunities to 3rd and 4th year students majoring in English without sacrificing financial stability.

Alumni Stories

Christina Han '22 was an intern in fall, 2021. A Campuswide Honors Collegium student, she received a 2022 Chancellor's Award of Distinction for her studies and campus activities, including her internship. Christina is studying for her Master of Arts in Teaching + Credential Program at UCI in summer 2022.

Sherissa Go '22 was an intern in fall, 2021. She writes, "I just wanted to say thanks for providing English majors with opportunities to explore careers in marketing and communications. I graduated with my English degree at the end of winter 2022 and scored a job at a leading Silicon Valley startup with no experience other than my internship and my work for New University. I'm currently working with engineers, sales directors, and marketing managers to sell AI technology to Fortune 500s. And I'm paid well, too!”

Lauren Seberos '21 was an intern in spring, 2021. She has been hired as a marketing intern at Pledge after completing our internship program. Read one of her posts here

Employers’ Testimonials

Anne Olin, President and CEO of Charitable Ventures shares, “I can’t tell you how thrilled I was to connect students from my alma mater, UCI, to the powerful work of emerging nonprofits in our incubator. When you bring together passionate and skilled English majors with passionate and skilled community leaders – good things happen! I hope we can continue to support these opportunities for students in the future.”

Jaime DeJong from UCI Claire Trevor School of the Arts reports, "In the fall, I worked with Mia on a project outline and plan, which included enhancing our 'Emerging Brighter' 2021-22 campaign with student stories. Mia put together the outline, subjects, and questionnaires and then executed the interviews and features. She also worked with our multimedia specialist to create a cohesive graphic design to unify the stories. I was so impressed with her work that we decided to make it a series leading up to our Giving Day campaign. We pushed each feature out on our website and social media to garner early interest in the campaign. Today, we aggregated all of the features and used them to communicate to our email marketing list.”

Jasmin Ward, Program Manager of Charitable Ventures shares, “We have successfully placed several UCI English interns with our sponsored projects as well as our marketing department. Interns can be a great asset to any nonprofit organization, especially those that are still growing and can really use that extra support. Our interns have helped bring our projects’ missions to life through vivid storytelling, compelling social media posts and developing marketing materials. We look forward to welcoming our next intern this fall!”
