We’re Better Together!

Our Story

Since the year 2000, UC Irvine has hosted some type of activity acknowledging International Education Week (IEW). Then in 2022, a planning committee formed with the intention of making the celebration of this special event a major, campuswide effort. That was the year we first hosted our MultiCultural Fair and Performances and we have seen a steady growth in interest ever since - reflected by the number of Student Organizations and Departments that get involved each year, with an average of 30 participating groups. Additionally, in 2024, we saw an increase in the number of events featured on our IEW calendar by 50%! IEW is now an annual festival of cultures when we strive to host the most comprehensive events highlighting the global diversity that is present at UC Irvine.

Here is a snapshot of the 2024 IEW at UC Irvine:

  • 32 Events and Activities hosted
  • 15 Campus Partners hosted activities
  • 528 attendees and 30 participating booths at the Study Abroad Fair
  • 26 Student Organizations and Departments represented at the MultiCultural Fair & Performances
  • 285 attendees at the Graduate and Family Housing’s WorldFest Closing Event
  • 12 Campus Partners on the IEW Planning Committee

We are so proud to work with the various campus partners who come together each year to develop the efforts in celebrating IEW at UCI. We’re Better Together!

Your Support

Unfortunately, every year our committee experiences budget cuts and receives less funding.

Help us raise $5,000 to sustain and develop IEW at UC Irvine so we can further our efforts in promoting cultural and international education awareness and connecting our campus community to the global world.

UC Irvine at a glance - stats sharing that there are 7,130 international students, 1,056 international scholars and 118 places of origin. Image background is the silhouette of a global map.

We are committed to improving the awareness and celebration of the cultural diversity that exists at UC Irvine.

Your support will be applied in various ways such as increasing the variety of cultural festivities and developing IEW outreach materials that would enhance the overall experience of our community.

What is International Education Week (IEW)?

IEW is a collaborative initiative between the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Education to recognize the people, places, and power of global connections within students, faculty and staff. The celebration was first implemented in the year 2000 and became an annual event during the 3rd week of November with activities occurring throughout educational institutions and organizations to foster global connections and understanding. The next IEW will take place from November 15-21, 2025!

UC Irvine’s International Education Week is dedicated to enhancing cultural and international education awareness across the campus and our community. This week recognizes the value of the exchange of ideas, perspectives, and experiences.
