FY18 Anteater Racing

This project has ended, but you can still support amazing UCI initiatives by visiting give.uci.edu. Your continued support of our students, faculty and staff will ensure that UCI remains the #1 university doing the most for the American dream. Go Anteaters!

UC Irvine Anteater Racing 2018!

Anteater Racing is a senior design project program from the Henry Samueli School of Engineering at the University of California, Irvine. Our program designs, builds, and competes with vehicles in Collegiate Design Series competitions hosted by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE International). Currently, we are in the process of building three new vehicles for the 2018 competition season:

  • "Marauder" - Baja SAE vehicle competing in Portland, Oregon May 30 - June 2, 2018
  • "Phantom" - Formula SAE Internal Combustion vehicle competing in Lincoln, Nebraska June 20-23, 2018
  • "Joule" - Formula SAE Electric vehicle competing in Lincoln, Nebraska June 20-23, 2018

This program strives to give engineering students at UCI the chance to work in a fun, fast-paced learning environment to get hands-on engineering experience. Students learn the engineering design process, manufacturing techniques, and team work skills that will greatly benefit them as they venture out into their careers. With your help, we can create a bright future for these engineering students by giving them the opportunity to make their designs come to life.

UC Irvine Formula SAE Race Team "Phantom"

The UCI FSAE Internal Combustion Race Team is a competitive, research based engineering project in which students develop a single seater formula-style race car for the Formula SAE Collegiate Design Series in Lincoln, Nebraska. Ranking in the competition is based on the total points received from specific metrics in design, cost, sales reports/presentations, and five dynamic racing events which include: endurance, efficiency, autocross, acceleration and skidpad. Coming off of last year's best 19th place finish, this year's team, code name "Phantom", is striving to develop our highest performing car and place in the top 10 at competition. Check out our video link for last year’s competition experience!

UC Irvine Formula SAE Electric Team "Joule"

The UCI Formula SAE Electric Team is a competitive, research-based senior design project where students design, build, and compete in the international Formula SAE design series hosted by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE). Our team (Joule) has the opportunity to compete in one of the most demanding and competitive fields, Electric Transportation. This project will push the limits of student’s abilities to research, design, and build and electric race car that is safe, is innovative, and performs well in dynamic race events. Our goal is to be the first UCI FSAE Electric team to complete all events in competition. We believe top 10 overall is well within our reach.

UC Irvine Baja SAE Race Team "Marauder"

The UCI BAJA SAE Race team is a group of engineering students working on the design, manufacturing, and validation of a rugged single seat off-road vehicle. This prototype vehicle has to be reliable, sustainable, and an economic production vehicle for the recreational market. We will compete against 100 universities from around the world, in Portland, Oregon, this upcoming May. This vehicle will be put to the test, against rocks, ditches, jumps, logs and a 4-hour long endurance race. After finishing 20th overall last year, we are working hard to reach our goal of placing inside the the top 15!
