Humanities Core has positively impacted the academic and personal growth of over 30,000 UCI alumni over the past half a century. Claudia Castro Luna, Anthropology Class of 1989 and Poet Laureate of Washington State, looks back at her time at UCI and writes, “after several graduate degrees, Humanities Core remains one of the most important courses of study I have ever undertaken, and for that I am grateful.”
Was Humanities Core a highlight of your experience at UCI as well? If so, please join us in celebrating UCI Humanities Core’s 50th Anniversary by contributing towards student support. Help us surpass our goal of raising $15,000 by November 15!
If we meet the first $5,000 goal, an anonymous donor will generously match it with an additional $5,000 for a total of $10,000! Together we will celebrate Humanities Core by supporting our students and their academic excellence!
Did you know that the Humanities Core Course began in 1970 and has since brought together the most brilliant students from across campus as they pursue academic excellence and dive deep into questions and conversations that matter? From its inception, the program was so strong in rigor and concept that many of the deans on campus strongly encouraged their students to make this curriculum a priority. To this day, our students rank Humanities Core among the best on campus and alumni frequently comment that Humanities Core was one of the highlights of their UCI experience.
Dara Jovkar, class of 2020 Informatics graduate, describes Humanities Core as “an indispensable experience as a first-year student.” Dara states that “the program has intelligent, thoughtful professors from diverse backgrounds that pushed me to improve my writing and critical thinking skills while making me a more informed citizen of the world. It is much more than a writing class — it is a creative journey that I recommend to anyone regardless of major and background.”
Your gift, of any amount, will go a long way toward funding Humanities Core student initiatives and achievements. This includes annual awards for the Website Project, which recognizes creativity in digital communication and public writing, and the Humanities Core Research Paper Awards, which includes a public symposium of student research.
Your donation will be used to recognize and reward students, inspiring excellence.
