UCI women’s basketball is a Big West team on the rise. Over the last two years, they have been knocking on the door of the program’s first regular-season title and second NCAA Tournament appearance. During that stretch, the Anteaters have gone 25-8 against conference opponents and made back-to-back appearances in the Big West Championship title game. In 2021-22, the ‘Eaters put together one of their best seasons ever, setting a school record with 14 conference victories, tying the overall win record at 21 and making UCI’s first WNIT appearance.
Coach Tamara Inoue's focus isn't only on guiding the Anteaters to excellence on the court, but also in providing unique experiential educational opportunities for student-athletes. To that end, we invite you to support our efforts to take the team in 2023 to the Guadeloupe Islands for the program’s second-ever foreign tour.
UCI women's basketball traveled throughout Japan for their first foreign tour. The players blogged about their experience, which you can read here.
As Coach T states, “It is one of the most exciting parts of my job to be able to take our team outside of their comfort zone to a different country. I love watching our student-athletes immerse themselves in another culture, give back to the local communities and youth, and grow both on and off the court in a once-in-a-lifetime experience. This foreign tour is so valuable to our team, not only in preparing us for the season, but also for the memories and experiences the student-athletes will carry for the rest of their lives.”
Embarking on a foreign tour allows our student-athletes to play against top international competition, while also giving them the unique opportunity to immerse themselves in a different culture. It is a learning experience both on and off the court. In addition, we get the chance to give back by organizing primary school visits and free youth clinics.
Thank you for your continued support and Go 'Eaters!
