The UCI Legacy Robotics Team launched its Mars Rover initiative to bring together a strong community of passionate and ambitious undergraduate students, committed to advancing space exploration technology. Our team focuses on the entire development process – from designing and building, to testing and competing with a rover equipped for planetary exploration at the University Rover Challenge based in Utah, in May 2025. This quarter, a team of 35 committed students work collaboratively to push the boundaries of robotics, precision engineering, and autonomous systems as we take on challenges.
Our rover is designed with advanced capabilities including soil analysis, life detection and a robotics arm for high-precision tasks! Together, we push the limits of our knowledge and skills as we take on challenges that help bridge the gap between classroom theory and hands-on experience, igniting futures in the science, engineering, technology and business fields.
Our mission is to pioneer advancements in robotics by developing a rover capable of exploring extreme environments, driving innovation at UCI and applying it directly. Every member of our team contributes towards the future of space exploration and innovation and we are committed to fostering ethical, forward-thinking engineers ready to lead the next frontier of exploration.
How Your Donations Help!
Designing and manufacturing a fully equipped Mars Rover ready to compete at the URC demands immense resources and steadfast support. Donations to the Engineering Team Projects Fund are the driving force behind our progress, enabling us to invest in advanced cutting-edge equipment and high-performance materials – each critical to developing more sophisticated rovers.
Your support not only elevates the quality of the rover but also enhances both our team’s enthusiasm and educational journey as it provides invaluable hands-on experience in some fields defining our future. It also fosters skills in design, testing, and problem-solving. Contributions towards our participation in the challenge give us the opportunity to apply our skills, meet hard deadlines, and tackle real-world problems head-on!
Extensive testing and meticulous design refinement require substantial funding, from travel expenses to each of the nuts and bolts that go into making our rover reach the best of its abilities. Every donation, no matter the size, directly impacts our ability to continue innovating and succeeding.
Your generosity drives us forward, bringing us closer and closer to exploring new frontiers and advancing the technology needed to build a rover capable of navigating the Martian landscape. We’re so excited to share this journey of innovation and discovery with you. Thank you for helping us reach the stars!
