Who We Are

Anteater Baja Racing is a team of 35+ undergraduate students that aims to design, manufacture, and test an off-road vehicle to compete in the 2026 Oregon Baja SAE International Competition. At competition, we face rigorous technical and safety inspections, present our engineering design process to industry professionals, and most importantly, put our vehicle to the test. Our vehicle is subject to a series of dynamic events designed to measure acceleration, maneuverability, suspension, and endurance over rough terrain and environmental conditions. Every system on the car is designed and built by our team, including the chassis, suspension, steering, brakes, powertrain and human interface.

Our Mission

This year, our team is focused on optimizing our vehicle, Corsair, by addressing key weaknesses identified during last year’s competition. We aim to maximize efficiency by reducing weight and replacing off the shelf parts with custom ones designed for our specifications. We are focused on conducting rigorous testing and performance validation to be able to put UC Irvine among the winners at competition. With your support, we can get the resources we need to refine and test the initial design iterations of our car, allowing us to identify and address what our driver and vehicle need to succeed at competition.

Lessons Learned

This project is an impactful experience for our members, we gain valuable hands-on manufacturing experience that goes far beyond the classroom. Through Baja, we learn machining (CNC and manual), welding, tube bending, and sheet metal work, as well as prototyping, jig building, system integration and data collection. More importantly, it allows the opportunity for us to immerse ourselves in what it means to be an engineer; tackling one problem after another, collaborating as a team to find solutions, and ultimately seeing our work come together as a fully functional vehicle at an international level competition.

Where the 2025 Graduates Are Now

Our graduates have gone on to make an impact at some of the most respected companies in the field, applying the technical, problem-solving, and teamwork skills they developed on the team to real-world challenges in industry.
Our alumni have continued their engineering journeys at the following organizations: Anduril Industries, Applied Medical, Boeing, Burns & McDonnell, Electron Beam Engineering, Fender Musical Instruments, Fluidic Systems, Honda Engineering North America, Joby Aviation, Kiewit, Lucid Motors, SpaceX and many more across the automotive, aerospace, defense, and manufacturing sectors.

We take pride in knowing that the experiences gained through designing, fabricating, and competing have prepared our members for success wherever their careers take them.

How Your Donations Help

We are raising funds to cover material costs, testing, and travel expenses, and we would truly be grateful for your support. Your support is the driving force behind our success. Every dollar donated directly impacts:

● Materials and Manufacturing: The purchase of essential materials, tooling, and services including chromoly steel tubing, angle grinders, and partnerships with local machine shops.

● Testing and Optimization: Rigorous testing scenarios which ensure that Corsair meets the highest standards of safety and performance, allowing us to excel at competition.

● Travel and Competition Expenses: Transportation, competition entry fees and accommodations, ensuring our team can proudly represent UC Irvine on a national stage.

Beyond the competition, your generosity enables us to create a transformative learning environment for students. By participating in Baja SAE, team members gain hands-on experience in engineering design, project management, teamwork and leadership – skills that will shape their futures as innovators in the field.
