Description

Invest in Future Transportation Leaders through ITE!

Who Are We

The Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE) Student Chapter at the University of California, Irvine is a student-led organization dedicated to promoting interest in all facets of transportation. Through hands-on projects, field trips, workshops, guest lectures, networking events and more, we provide ample opportunities for students to engage with the transportation industry beyond the classroom.

Our ITE Chapter aims to continue growing in its membership and participation in the Southern California region and the overall Western District. Our chapter has experienced explosive membership growth since 2022, with a 50% increase in the last year, and the highest number of active members (36) in several years. Our club offers opportunities from project based competitions, to community and industry engagement and professional development.

Your Support Matters

We aim to use the funds raised in three primary categories: Conference costs for attending both the Interdistrict Transportation Competition (ITC) and ITE Western District Student Leadership Summit (SLS) and general overhead/material costs for our members. Overhead needs range from items such as subsidized club t-shirts for members, reimbursement for drivers to transport members to agency field trips or office tours and purchasing food for our guest speaker events. While we have a baseline goal of $3,000 to help offset the costs associated with these activities, we hope to raise a total of $7000, which would come closer to covering all our needs.

Your gifts help provide our members various opportunities to get more involved in the transportation industry. Whether it be the technical opportunities offered in the Interdistrict Transportation Competition (ITC) or the professional development skills we can gain from the Student Leadership Summit (SLS), your support will help us to continue strong throughout the 2026-27 school year. You are truly supporting future transportation leaders at UC Irvine!

Interdistrict Transportation Competition (ITC)

The Interdistrict Transportation Competition (ITC) is a fast-paced transportation design project challenging student teams to develop and present designs to tackle realistic transportation issues. Last year, our student chapter competed at ITC hosted at UC Davis. The project is particularly suited for freshmen or students with little transportation experience, as they can quickly learn and apply engineering judgement, CAD drafting and communication skills.

ITC 2026 will be hosted at Utah State University, so we predict about a 20-30% increase in travel costs compared to last year. With the increased visibility after last year’s competition results, this year’s program is projected to accommodate 16-20 students.

We hope to send everyone that is interested in going so members can have the opportunity to network with other students and present their design in the competition!

Student Leadership Summit (SLS)

Last year, UC Irvine hosted the ITE Western District Student Leadership Summit (SLS). Bringing together over 350 attendees representing 13 Schools and 42 companies and agencies, the Student Leadership Summit allowed students to be immersed in workshops, field trips and presentations to advance their knowledge in the transportation field and network with industry professionals and fellow students. The Student Leadership Summit is truly a staple conference for all ITE chapters every year. We had 28 students from ITE at UC Irvine attend the last conference, incurring no travel costs. With this year’s conference being held at UC Berkeley, we expect travel costs to jump significantly. We expect to have 25-30 students interested this year and hope to send as many as we can!

Overhead / Club Improvement Costs

The rest of your support will help cover other miscellaneous club costs, which may include marketing materials, general meeting supplies and transit costs for field trips! Here are some of the field trips ITE at UC Irvine has participated in last couple of years:

  • ITE at UC Irvine Cooking Night
  • Matcha Latte Resume / Interview Workshop
  • DTLA Office Tours with CPP / UCR ITE Student Chapters
  • LGB Airport Tour
  • …and more!
