Who We Are
The National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) at UC Irvine is more than a student organization. It is a community dedicated to helping engineering students grow academically, professionally and personally while creating a network of support that extends far beyond the classroom. Through our chapter, students have the opportunity to connect with peers who share similar experiences, build relationships with professional engineers, develop leadership skills and gain exposure to career opportunities that can shape their futures.
A major part of that experience comes from participating in NSBE conferences and other events throughout the year. Regional and national conferences, technical competitions, professional development programs, workshops and networking events allow students to take what they learn at UC Irvine and connect it to the broader engineering community. These experiences can be especially meaningful for students who may not otherwise have access to large professional networks or opportunities to meet engineers who have navigated similar paths.
Throughout the academic year, NSBE at UC Irvine works to create opportunities that support our members both inside and outside of the classroom. Whether through professional development workshops, mentorship, community-building events, technical activities, outreach or conversations with industry professionals, our goal is to help students develop the confidence, skills and connections necessary to succeed in engineering.

Why Your Support Matters
Our conferences are one of the most visible examples of this mission in action. At events such as the NSBE Region VI Fall Regional Conference and the NSBE Annual Convention, students are able to meet engineers and recruiters from across the country, connect with other university chapters, participate in workshops and competitions and explore internship and career opportunities. For many members, these experiences provide their first opportunity to see the possibilities of an engineering career beyond the university environment and to meet professionals who can offer guidance and mentorship.
However, the impact of NSBE does not end when a conference does. The relationships students build, the leadership skills they develop and the sense of community they find within NSBE continue throughout their time at UC Irvine and beyond graduation. Our chapter strives to create an environment where students can support one another, celebrate each other’s accomplishments and feel that they have a community behind them as they pursue demanding careers in STEM.
By supporting NSBE at UC Irvine, donors are investing in more than participation at an event. You are helping provide students with access to professional opportunities, mentorship, leadership experiences, community and resources throughout the year. Every contribution helps us continue building a stronger community while preparing our members to become the next generation of engineers, innovators and leaders.
