Dear donors,

We wanted to provide a quick update now that we have been working in Panama for 2 weeks.  So far we’ve been to 2 away clinics in very different settings.  We’ve enrolled 50 subjects each in our carotid ultrasound and tuberculosis studies, and have enrolled 20 subjects in our ophthalmology study.  In addition, members of our group helped with patient intake, obstetrical ultrasounds for each pregnant patient, and worked with medical providers to help with history-taking and translation.  We have helped Floating Doctors see over 300 patients so far.

We’re looking forward to another productive two weeks!  This project would not be possible without your support.

Dear supporters,

Thank you so much for your donation.  With your help, we have already raised $3000 with two months remaining until our trip.  

We're very excited to announce that we're adding another study to our trip.  Ophthalmological care is hard to come by in underserved areas such as Bocas del Toro.  We're trying to change this by using inexpensive lenses attached to smartphone cameras to take images of eye diseases.  These images will be stored and brought back to UC Irvine for analysis and diagnosis by ophthalmologists.  If these lenses are shown to be effective, this would both reduce the need for expensive ophthalmological equipment and an in-person ophthalmologist in global healthcare projects.
