UCI Dragon Boat

What is Dragon Boat?

Dragon boat is a competitive racing sport where teams paddle in a long canoe for 500 meters. A dragon boat consists of 10 rows of paddlers, 1 caller, and 1 steer for a total of 22 people. Because there are so many people, there is a heavy emphasis on teamwork: paddlers must work together to move the boat in the most efficient way possible. Dragon boat is also a technique-oriented sport which means that raw power is not the primary factor in a fast boat. Additionally, it is a growing sport worldwide - in UCIDB we have races in places such as Long Beach, San Francisco, San Diego, Vancouver, and Tempe, Arizona.

Who are we?

UCI Elements is a collegiate Dragon Boat team, going on its seventeenth year of establishment. Our team represents the three elements; thunder, for the drive we have; wind, for the freedom we feel on the boat; and fire, for the passion that moves us. Over the years, UCIDB has become more and more competitive and has been showing it through our achievements. Throughout every individual's time on this team, we strive to develop their mental and physical capacity, all while maintaining an enjoyable family atmosphere with a close-knit community.

What are we funding for?

The Concord Pacific Dragon Boat Festival is an international competition hosted yearly in Vancouver, Canada. As a competition outside of the US, it provides our crew with a taste of the dragon boat community abroad. Our team generally only races in Vancouver once every two years due to how expensive the trip is. The total cost for each paddler is 3x the amount collected for races during the year, not including travel expenses. A big portion of expenses comes from lodging expenses and travel expenses, which act as a great financial burden on our crew members. With your help, we can make this racing experience fun and affordable!

Thank you!

As a whole, we’d like to thank you for supporting us, our UCIDB community and the dragon boat community. As college students, we all have varying expenses to take care of. And for our organization, funding is extremely limited. We know that you yourself may have your own expenses, so we thank you so much for your kindness and generosity!
